Another quiet week on the frontlines of gaming news and once again the news team is bailed out by forum users keen to share their opinions on the latest and greatest titles, or at least one forum user keen to share his opinion. Check out this review of Lionhead's recently released Fable 2. Whilst the title didn't stay in the top spot of the charts for very long when it first came out, it is getting closer to Christmas and a purchase might be looking like a good option if you're after a light hearted game for the kids or yourselves to invest plenty of time in.

It's time for another review from the denizens of Preys World, this time WMain00 shares his thoughts on Bethesda's Fallout 3. Released almost a month ago after fighting its way to the shelves through vast scepticism of simply being a rehash of Oblivion the game has met with a largely positive reaction from many of those naysayers.

With little industry activity to talk about right now and a hefty catalogue of games recently released or on the horizon we've got another review in store for you today. Released in mid-October, just before the big names of Fallout and Far Cry hit our shelves you might have picked up Saints Row 2 to tide you over until your most eagerly awaited titles were released or you might have skipped it entirely and spent the weeks twiddling your thumbs until said big names came about. If you're still undecided on whether or not this light hearted free form action game is for you then check this out.

PW Reviews - Mirror's Edge

With the current swarm of game releases overwhelming us this fall there are no doubt a few titles which might slip by unnoticed or some that we neglect to pick up so as to not hurt our bank balances too much. Mirror's Edge is one of the more recently released games which shows a lot of originality and promise but also many of you may be dubious over whether or not to actually pick up, especially considering a mix of fairly low scoring reviews. At a time like this it might not be a wise decision basing your decisions off of biased or overly dramatic reviews, instead it might seem that the best option is to trust feedback from real gamers who have already taken a leap of Faith (terrible Mirror's Edge pun). This sterling summary of Mirror's Edge first impressions from forum user WMain00 should lend you a helping hand.

In a bid to get more people to share their thoughts with the rest of the world our great and wise leader has been scratching his noggin, pondering how best to go out allowing site members to seamlessly integrate with the main page. The spawn of such pondering is this; a brand new dedicated reviews section specifically designed to give forum users a viable way of sharing their opinions and pearly wisdom in a lasting format and not to simply disappear in the annals of a giant spam filled thread.

If you have a review; be it of a game, film, piece of hardware or Jacobs cream crackers, or just a retrospective essay summing up your thoughts on a particular matter then this is the place you’ll want to see your work. Naturally, because all articles will be appearing on the main page as well as the forum, we ask that you try to keep your work as swear-free as possible, achieve a decent standard of grammar and most importantly, be interesting to read.

In order to submit your work, please send a private message containing your article and links to all screenshots to a main page contributor; though ideally send it to all of us so that it’s more likely to be put up quickly, and we shall go about uploading it to the database and making sure the screenshots are displayed correctly.

Half-Life 2 - Zombie Panic Mod Graduates to Source

Thursday 3rd of January, 2008 - 18:49:07 GMT

Platforms:

  • Windows
  • XBOX

One group of modders put New Year celebrations on hold to bring gamers an upgrade of their celebrated Zombie Panic Mod from the original Half-Life. Zombie Panic: Source for the PC version of the game launched on the last weekend of 2007. Given that there will be a new Romero-directed Zombie film, Diary Of The Dead, in cinemas in mid February (US) and the beginning of March (UK), it's perfect for playing in its own right if you haven't experienced Dead Rising on the 360 or the latest Resident Evil entry on the Wii. Simple survival is the aim of the game for a set time and since only one person has to be a zombie at the beginning, that sounds simple on the surface. However when you end up dead, you will naturally switch sides.

We're very impressed with the mod even in Beta form, whose single showstopping bug isn't enough to ruin the fun - you simply log back into the server - and which can be enjoyed on comparatively high pings at present. Give the mod a try here.

XBOX - SCDA Xbox > SCDA Xbox 360?

Monday 30th of October, 2006 - 21:47:04 GMT

Platforms:

  • XBOX

Quite an interesting little turn of events has now appeared over on Gamespot, namely that the much crustier Xbox version of Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Double Agent has actually managed to score exactly the same score as it's much more technically advanced Xbox 360 cousin. Surely a first.

Xbox Review (8.5)

Xbox 360 review (8.5)

The main reason for the Xbox version managing to hold it's own is down to one thing and one thing only - the inclusion of the always loved cooperative play.

If you've had your fill of the solo missions, Splinter Cell Double Agent offers a complete set of two-player cooperative missions as well as plenty of competitive multiplayer modes to keep you busy for much longer. The co-op missions in these versions of the game hark back to the compelling but underdeveloped co-op gameplay introduced in Chaos Theory, whereas on the Xbox 360, the co-op missions are just a multiplayer variant against computer-controlled opponents. This means you'll undertake story-driven missions from the perspective of other agents in the employ of Third Echelon, the same organization that pays Fisher's bills. These missions tend to be loosely related to the solo campaign, which makes them add an interesting layer to the story.

Ironic and yet somehow completely understandable.

On a much related note:

Ps2 review (8.2)

As of yet no review has been given for the delayed PC version of the game. And there is still no sign of the long promised demo that Ubisoft waved in our faces a couple of weeks back. Nay bother, the game is out in just 4 days time.

XBOX - World War II Combat: Iwo Jima Review @ Gamespot...

Friday 11th of August, 2006 - 09:58:00 GMT

Platforms:

  • XBOX

Over at Gamespot they have a review up for a game I'd never even heard of until the actual review was posted. World War II Combat: Iwo Jima gets a rather shocking 2.0 Score.

The Good: ....

The Bad: Terrible graphics; there's no way to replenish lost health, which makes the game overly difficult and extremely frustrating; inane checkpoint system; seemingly random hit detection; clipping problems, deficient artificial intelligence, lame mission design, weak sound, and more.
