For our non-British gamers, Gerald Ratner was a multi-millionaire jeweller who called his products "Absolute Crap" and got fired in lightning speed when customers deserted the brand.
Step forward Cliffy Blezinski, who has labelled every reasonably knowledgable PC Gamer a pirate and stated that this is the reason why there won't be a PC version of Gears of War 2.
Of course if you're going to criticise the fans that put you where you are it would be useful not to have made a major misfire with your bread and butter regular release. The modding community needed to save Unreal Tournament III from becoming to total flop, not to mention well-timed price cutting. If Duke Nukem Forever steps out of vapourware in the next two quarters, no PC FPS gamer will care about Gears 2, and we'll be waiting for Cliffy B's next round of verbal nonsense.
