Grand Theft Auto IV - Analyst gets sales projection right but release plan wrong
Friday 6th of March, 2009 - 22:30:02 GMT
We love analysts at PW; when you need someone to talk absolute rubbish that's never right, especially about the games industry, they're always there.
Step forward Michael Pachter. Ironically on this occasion he is half-right - the estimate that the downloadable content for GTA IV will reach two million sold by the end of the year, is very easy to reach.
However, he also thinks that the next console instalment will arrive next year. We disagree with this, if there is a longer term plan for at least one more downloadable episode. The title will simply carry on selling as a result of these extra episodes, so it would be hasty at best and lazy at worst for GTA V to be rushed out.
If the modern engine is used to create a sequel to any of the previous games without a number attached like Vice City, San Andreas or Liberty City Stories on the handhelds, then the idea of such a rapid follow-up sounds more plausible. However, it may be one prediction too many while Take-Two/Rockstar continue to rake in the money from the current instalment.
