Grand Theft Auto IV - Yes to Episodes, no to full follow up this year
Saturday 17th of January, 2009 - 14:27:55 GMT
GTA IV finally hit the retail shelves for the PC on 3rd December last year. Unfortunately, our assumption that this final delay would result in a reliable game proved to be hopelessly optimistic. Even Valve had to issue refunds for download purchases of the game through its Steam client. The game was even more broken than any of the previous three that exhibited graphical issues or frame rate limitations, regardless of specification and after five weeks all the major issues have yet to be resolved. Sadly, a GTA PC port must be viewed with the same caution as a Microsoft OS release now.
On the consoles, which appear to have settled down following some launch bugs of their own, downloadable episodes are due to appear in a Half-Life 2 style, before Halloween this year. We've no idea where rumour-mongers got the idea that Rockstar would ditch a golden GTA goose after only one year (even with the bugs) and make a GTA V more quickly than they needed to.
It remains to be seen whether the episodes will be free, or will require a points purchase through Home/Live or an extra buy through Steam or the general web/retail box on PC, when this content finally arrives.
